I cringe when I hear someone say that a burger is unhealthy. My poor beloved burger has been defamed. And not by who you think...by their own people--the "burger" industry. The Burger has been manipulated, warped, processed, freeze dried and microwaved into the green "meat" fast-food patties that Americans have GROWN to call a hamburger. Well I'm taking a stand. A burger, like ANY food, can be made well or poorly. Take a salad. Few people take a salad to be unhealthy, but many salad dressings are laden with fat and preservatives-- you might be voiding out the benefits of eating your leafy greens. Not dismissing salads--love them, just making sure you understand the importance of ingredients and label reading. In terms of health and wellness, its arguably more important to understand what goes into our food rather than the calorie count. This is a well balanced meal.
A burger my way: Sprouted grain bun, pasture raised beef or naturally raised chicken or turkey, nice thick slice of hormone/ antibiotic free cheese, dark leafy lettuce and truly vine ripened tomato. All your basic food groups. Doesn't get much better.
