Hairy Golf Balls

This recipe stands the test of time. My Aunt Deb first brought Hairy Golf Balls to our family in 1969. She learned the recipe in a nutrition class at a local college. I have many memories of eating these at my grandmother's home when I was little girl. They have now come full circle with the next generation of children enjoying these family treats, they will always have a special place at our table.

This past week, in my quest to have interesting lunches and cool snacks, I sent Kid #1 to school with 3 Hairy Golf Balls. He said, "mom all the kids wanted to eat them." I will take that as a win, for now.

There are many ways to make these tasty treats, here are two:

Hairy Golf Balls

1 cup peanut butter
1/2 slivered almonds
1/4 c chocolate chips, raisins or carob chips
1-1/2 cup shredded coconut

OR

1 cup crunchy peanut butter
1/2 cup honey
1 c raisins
1-1/2 c shredded coconut

Mix everything together except the coconut. Drop spoon fulls of the mixture on to a plate of coconut. Roll into small rounds until completely covered with coconut. (If the peanut mixture is to soft or sticky, refrigerate for 30 to 60 minutes first.) Store in the refrigerator.

Makes approximately three dozen walnut sized hairy golf balls.

NOTE: if you plan to send these in your kids lunch, make sure you pack an ice pack.

That's hilarious and the name alone is great marketing for kids!
