Jamie Oliver Proves it: Healthy Foods Raise Students' Test Scores

The right food can not only improve the health of children, it can also raise their test scores! A new study released by the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) at Essex University (in the UK) tested the academic effects of a diet championed by UK food guru Jamie Oliver, and it found that the foods significantly increased children's test scores.

The performance of 11-year-old students was enhanced by 8% in science scores and 6% in English scores. Absenteeism due to sickness dropped 15%. This shows a substantial improvement in the attendance and performance of schoolchildren, delivering a far better result for the investment of money society puts into public schools.

Oliver's campaign for increasing the nutrition of school lunch programs is called the "Feed Me Better" campaign. Many schools originally resisted the program, but now 81 out of 88 schools in Greenwich have adopted it, TimesOnline reports.

Teachers are also noticing that students are less hyperactive and more calm, able to absorb more information from important lessons. All this is no surprise to NaturalNews readers, of course: The links between diet and academic performance is quite clear. While conventional doctors ignore the link, and psychiatrists want to drug these children into a state of chemical stupor, the real answer is to simply feed them real food for a change and get all the toxic chemical additives and processed ingredients out of their diets.

I have a real bone to pick with doctors that give out pills to parents who walk into they're office and say they think they're kids are ADHD or ADD without having them tested. When my step children were younger and lived with they're mother she had them put on meds this way, just walked into the office and asked for them. The kids were never tested, my husband called the school and told they're teachers they were on meds for ADHD, they knew NOTHING about this, the teachers all agreed with my husband there was no reason for them to be on meds. He called the doctor's office and wanted to talk to the doctor, it wasn't the doctor but a phsycians helper that decided that they should be on meds. They're mother wanted to be able to control them, they were hyper ( all they ate was take out food and junk). When she found out we were opposed to the meds and were trying to get a legitamate reason for why they were on them, she stopped giving it to them. Now they live with us, they eat homemade food, and NO meds!!!

Well Duuuhhh. Why does it take research to "prove" to idiots that junk food is not good for you? I hear you Bunny- your story really gets my peed meter rising! Between HFCS and TV what do you expect out of today's children? Why is a pill everyone's answer? Why can't people see that what you fill your kids up with not only has immediate affects but severe long term affects as well? The health system is in a crisis and people need to wake Up!

Wow, Bunny - That is a great story. I agree that doctors often jump to give out pills when a simple adjustment in lifestyle would work everything out.

I think our culture is all-too-impressed with quick and easy. And it's more often the slow and steady that gets the job done!
